Dream Theater Collection

Dream Theater Collection

This page provides links to my current Dream Theater Collection. I have split this into albums and DVDs. I have listed any singles and promotional releases with the associated official release although this is more of an art than a science.

Obviously, any notes are the best information that I have and could well be wrong. Please contact me with any updates and over time, I should be able to improve the quality of the site as a definitive record of Dream Theater releases.

When Dream and Day Unite

When Dream and Day Unite

When Dream and Day Unite (1989) was the first studio album released by Dream Theater, on March 6th, 1989. It was recorded in the summer of 1988 at Kajem/Victory Studios in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, and is the only Dream Theater album to feature Charlie Dominici on vocals.

Images and Words

Images and words

Images and Words was the second album. It is the first album on which James LaBrie, appears; and is a seminal release in the progressive metal genre. "Pull Me Under" received substantial airplay on radio stations and MTV, and to this day remains the band's biggest hit. The album itself is also the most commercially successful of all Dream Theater's albums, attaining gold record certification in the U.S. and platinum in Japan. A Change of Seasons

A Change of Seasons

A Change of Seasons was released in 1995 following a petition by fans. The title track had been written when Charlie Dominici was still in the band and originally was to be included on Images and Words. It comprises the 23-minute title track and a collection of bonus live covers performed at a fan club concert at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London. The title track includes samples from the film Dead Poets Society.

Falling into Infinity

Falling into Infinity

The fourth studio album features Derek Sherinian on keyboards. This album was the subject of some interference by the record label resulting in some of the songs changing considerably compared to the demo versions. The album cover also features a non standard font used for the Dream Theater name.

Once in a Livetime

Once in a Lifetime

The second live album was recorded at the Le Bataclan in France and released in 1998. A video on VHS was also released that was subsequently re-released as a DVD in 2005.

Scenes from a Memory

Scenes from a Memory

Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory, released in 1999, is Dream Theater's fifth studio album. It is a concept album that deals with the story of Nicholas and the discovery of his past life, which involves love, murder and infidelity as Victoria Page. As its name might imply, Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory is a sequel; it follows "Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle And The Sleeper", a song from the Images and Words. However, when naming Metropolis Pt. 1 the band's intention was not to write a two part epic - it was intended as a joke. Only after continuous pleas from fans did the band begin working on "Part 2".

Live Scenes from New York

Live Scenes from New York

Live Scenes From New York is a 3CD live album, recorded on August 30, 2000, at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. Train of Thought

Train of Thought

Train of Thought is the seventh full-length studio album. Aiming for a straightforward metal record influenced by the response of their heavier songs while on tour (also likely to be influenced by their live covers of Master of Puppets and The Number of the Beast), it is widely considered their heaviest album to date.
